Here at Gem & Rose Beauty and Wellness, we have teamed up with Acupuncturist Mina Pyun Bio. Mina has been in practice for 6 years, and has gone through a vigorous 3.5 year training where she gained a diverse patient experience. Patients that have approached Mina vary from simple pain management to autoimmune conditions that are difficult to treat with western medicine. Everyone hears about Acupuncture one time or another whether from a friend, a physician’s office, a wellness center, chiropractor’s and so on. But not many people truly understand what Acupuncture actually does to the body, why it works, how it works, and if it is right for them.

Acupuncture is a style of complementary alternative medicine (CAM). Complimentary and Alternative just means, it is not main stream, it is not the typical western style of medicine, like prescribing meds and sending you for tests, and the normal things you are familiar with. It is something you add to your normal medical care, and alternative to things that probably are not working or helping you heal. People turn to Acupuncture because it works with the natural body processes. Let me explain further..

With Acupuncture, thin needles the size of a hair are placed in superficial points on the body to stimulate your body’s Qi. This method is used to treat various ailments, physical and mental.

What is Qi? Qi is the energy that moves the blood and fluids throughout our body. It is the circulating life force whose existence and properties are the basis of Chinese philosophy and medicine. In Chinese medicine, everything is about Qi, “the energy” in our body. When something is not working right or we are sick, the Qi is out of alignment. Our bodies need help to regulate this energy and Acupuncture helps to do this. Our bodies have a map of energy pathways, and in Acupuncture these pathways are studied very closely. Licensed Acupuncturist’s with experience, can help your body heal from an array of issues and concerns. Bringing your energy flow back into the right rhythms and your body and mind back into itself, where it works best.

There is a specific Korean style of Acupuncture that has gained much popularity due to it’s high success rate at curing many common ailments, quickly. This style is called Korean 4 Needle technique. (SAAM)

This style is less invasive yet intense. It stimulates specific energy channels to regulate the body back to its normal healthy state. Patients have experienced longer effects of the treatment with this technique.

Conditions that have been treated with this style of Acupuncture include:

Infertility / Gynecological disorders; Treatments help reduce stress, and increase blood flow, relax muscle tissues which will increase the chance of conceiving. Other issues that can be treated include premenstrual syndrome, menopausal syndrome, menstrual cycle disorders, ovarian cysts, etc.

Let’s not forget about pain management treatments that can ease back pain, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, sports injuries, and other pain -related disorders. Post surgical pain can also be treated. Using the 4 needle technique, it is possible to correct imbalances in the body to help with stress management, which can in turn reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

Then we have those wishing to stop smoking. Acupuncture can help treat and even cure the symptoms of nicotine deprivation with increased relaxation, accelerated detoxification and restoration of balance in your body.

Gastrointestinal diseases can be treated by stimulating and regulating the parasympathetic nervous system. Acupuncture treatments can help the body digest correctly and absorb nutrients. Along with dietary guidelines, acupuncture treatments can help relieve pain and symptoms of a variety of gastrointestinal disorders.

When coupled with a healthy diet, Acupuncture treatments can help with weight loss by balancing your body’s energy, and hormones. This can help to reduce the cravings, and regulate fat storage and metabolism.

At Gem & Rose Studio we also offer Laser Acupuncture. This is a newer method of stimulation that uses low-level energy laser beams to influence acupuncture points. The low power laser beam causes no damage to the tissue so even injured areas can be safely treated.

Acupuncture does not hurt, at the most it will feel slightly uncomfortable in tender places, or thinner skin. There are very little contraindication for Acupuncture and pretty much everyone is safe to receive this treatment. It is a wonderful addition to your wellness journey and when using Acupuncture as well as Massage Therapy, the benefits are really endless.
